The Snake Charmers

Is a conservation and livelihood projects I worked
on for ten years that also resulted in the only
study of its kind on the snake charmers of India.
Through this project we opened shops for 30
families where they could ply their musical trade.
The project led to the creation of ‘A Hundred
Charmers’ a one of its kind musical band with-
out the use of snakes.

Bawarias - The Forgotten Tribe

The Bawarias of Rajasthan are a hunting ,
nomadic community that live on the edge of
Sariska National Park. In 2004, I undertook
a field survey of 100 families to find out
what are their livelihood strategies and what
can be done to use their skills for wildlife
conservation

PUBLICATION
This sections highlights some of my published work based on primary data collected during my conser-
vation projects. It includes data collected with a hunting community the Bawarias that highlights their socio-economic condition and the extreme pover ty in which they live , the wild animals they hunted and some reccomendations for policy makers. The second report is on sna-
ke charmers that includes ethno-botanical, herpetological and socio-economic data and is the first of kind comprehensive survey conducted with this community.
EDITORIAL
This section highlights opinion pieces I have written over the years on a range of topics from climate change to the govern ment’s policy on environmental issues. These have been published in news dailies like the Hindustan Times to magazines like Down to Earth.
REPORTAGE
This section highlights over 400 news reports during my stint as a television journalist and as Enviro-
nment Editor at CNN-IBN over a period of 8 years.
